Wasting Love by Iron Maiden [Fear of the Dark (1992)] Official video directed by Samuel Bayer.
Dream on brothers, while you can
Dream on sister, I hope you find the one
All of our lives, covered up quickly
by the tides of time
Let’s talk about favourite songs and favourite bands again, shall we?
Iron Maiden is in my top 5 favourite bands of all time, and this song, Wasting Love, the third single of their “Fear of the Dark” album, is one of my favourite Iron Maiden singles.
Sands are flowing and the lines are in your hand
In your eyes I see the hunger, and the desperate cry that tears the night
Now, I haven’t met any Maiden fan that hates this song yet, but apparently there are some around? I guess the idea of a power ballad might be the cause of a ” brain short circuit” for some metal fans… I don’t know.
I guess it’s hard to fit this song into the band’s trajectory, especially after the previous albums and their highly heavy metal charged singles. But I do enjoy it when bands try different things (after all change is a part of life) but I guess that’s not for everybody and not everyone take changes very well…
I personally like the idea of a good and simple, yet beautiful, metal inspired ballad in an album like Fear of the Dark. I say simple, yet there is a certain depth in the lyrics, and the song itself is beautiful and heartfelt. Plus, the band must appreciate this song, for they played it live many times during Fear of the Dark tour.
Spend your days full of emptiness
Spend your years full of loneliness
Wasting love, in a desperate caress
Rolling shadows of nights
I just love this song.

Trough the years..
“Only the good die young, all the evil seem to live forever.” by Iron Maiden
The fact that this gifset has Maiden lyrics just increases the sobs.
